Undergraduate Admissions

All intended nursing majors may apply to School of Nursing in February of each year to begin the traditional nursing program the following fall. The traditional nursing application is only available online January 15 - February 15 each year. The RN-BS program application will only be available in November while the ABS program application is available August 15 - October 1.

All transfer applicants must apply to both UB and the School of Nursing by filing the UB application and submitting official transcripts.

Admission is competitive and granted on a space available basis for those who present a strong overall academic record. To be considered for admission, applicants must have completed most of the prerequisites at the time of application and be able to complete any remaining prerequisites before their respective program start date. All prerequisite courses must be completed with grades of "C" or better and minimum overall undergraduate and nursing prerequisite GPAs of at least 3.0 are required for consideration.

The following average overall and nursing prerequisite GPAs of those admitted for 2012 illustrate the competitive nature of undergraduate admissions in nursing at UB:

  • Accelerated Program: 3.52 and 3.70, respectively (72 students admitted, 196 applied)
  • Traditional Program: 3.65 and 3.75, respectively (80 students admitted, 327 applied)

Prospective nursing majors are encouraged to develop alternate plans in consultation with an academic advisor that include nursing programs at other institutions and/or other majors as they work toward applying at UB.

**Please note that while the traditional program is intended for incoming freshmen, the supplemental application is for students who have completed most of the prerequisites.  Any questions regarding admission criteria should be addressed by a School of Nursing academic advisor.
