DEU Orientation - January 2013
The Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) is a service partnership model for providing clinical nursing education for undergraduate nursing students. The orientation you are about to view is provided each fall and spring semester, as needed, for professional registered nurses who serve as DEU nurses, nurse managers, and clinical faculty. Upon viewing the orientation you will be able to 1) describe the DEU model as implemented by the University at Buffalo SON, 2) discuss the roles and responsibilities of DEU nurses, nurse managers, and clinical faculty, 3) examine issues related to transitioning from a traditional clinical model to a DEU model, 4) apply clinical teaching strategies which foster professional growth and critical thinking, and 5) discuss formative and summative evaluation processes and the DEU nurses role with the clinical faculty for student evaluation.
