The Accelerated Bachelor of Science (BS) Option for Second-Degree Students is the UB School of Nursing’s (SON) accelerated second-degree option for a Bachelor of Science in nursing. In only 12 months (May to May) of full time study, these graduates are fully prepared to take the state board NCLEX exam for licensing to become a registered nurse (RN).
This option offers the undergraduate nursing curriculum as an intensive, full-time, 12-month program designed for the mature, highly motivated, career-minded student who has already completed an undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a field other than nursing. Listed below is the program outline.
How to Apply
Minimum requirements must be met for admission into the Accelerated BS option, however it is expected successful applicants will exceed these basic requirements.
- A minimum of a 3.0 overall GPA for all undergraduate work and a 3.0 in the prerequisite courses. View a list of courses.
- Prerequisite courses must either be completed upon application or a plan for completing them by the time the program starts in May, should be submitted with your application. Admission will be granted on a space available basis.

UB Application:
- Mail your application directly to UB Admissions Office. 15 Capen Hall, University at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY 14260. (Mailing it to the processing unit in Albany will take longer).
- Applying to UB as early as possible because the School of Nursing cannot review your application until your UB application is complete and all transcripts are received. We recommend you complete the UB application no later than
October 15
- On the UB application use the number #1143 for the curriculum code and #20 for the campus code
School of Nursing application:
- Applications for the ABS program are available starting July 15.
- The deadline to apply is November 1.
- The School of Nursing application must be complete to be considered including the requirement for a resume, goal statement, and plan to complete any remaining prerequisites.
- Qualified applicants will be invited for an interview.
