The Adult Nurse Practitioner Programs offers the
The program prepares baccalaureate nurses for Advanced Practice Nursing as Adult Nurse Practitioners (ANP) who are competent to provide care to adults across the health continuum. Students have the opportunity to practice in community based settings as well as hospitals and subspecialty areas in order to prepare them for a broad spectrum of job opportunities in the care of adults. Graduate preparation expands the comprehensiveness of the ANP role to include critical thinking and independent decision making in the areas of research, leadership, education, health policy, and consultation. The ANP Program meets the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) guidelines and prepares graduates to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s national certification exam.

Credits cannot be transferred into a certificate program. A maximum number of 34 credit hours is required to complete the Adult Nurse Practitioner advanced certificate. However, credits may be waived if the individual’s transcript indicates that the required course or its equivalent has been taken within the last 10 years. Only the faculty member teaching the required course can determine equivalency of content during a formal review process, initiated by the student. Despite the number of courses that are permitted to be waived, all students in this program must complete at least 12 credit hours including 600 clinical hours, all which must be taken at the University at Buffalo. No other exemptions are allowed, or will be considered.
